Basildon Philatelic Society has been serving the stamp collectors and philatelists of the Basildon area since 1968.
We are a group of collectors who share a common interest in philately and its many forms, including stamp collecting, postal history, aerophilately, thematics and marcophily amongst others. Two meetings are usually held each month and cover a wide range philatelic topics, including displays (by members and invited speakers), competitions (both formal and informal), auctions and quizzes.
At a typical meeting, that first quarter hour from 7.30pm is an informal period to allow members to chat and exchange greetings, trade or swap stamps, and allow the Committee to welcome visitors and undertake any administrative work. At 7.45pm, the Chairman calls the meeting to order and communicates any news or matters of interest. He then announces the purpose of the meeting and hands over to the speaker or organiser for the rest of the evening. Tea or coffee is served at around 9pm, after which the evening's event normally continues until 9.45pm, when we close to enable the car park to be cleared by 10.00pm.
Outside the regular programme of meetings the Society operates an Exchange Packet which offers members a simple method of buying and selling stamps to enhance their collections. Members are kept informed through a quarterly newsletter which includes articles provided by members. Stamp fairs and exhibitions may be organised from time to time.
Visitors are always welcome to attend any of our meetings with a view to joining the Society.
The Society is affiliated to the Association of Essex Philatelic Societies and the Association of British Philatelic Societies.
